Enzyme Activity Measurement of Malate Dehydrogenase (Oxaloacetate-Decarboxylating) (NADP+) Using Spectrophotometric Assays

Creative Enzymes is professional in providing accurate and high-quality activity measurement services. Having the most advanced instrument and technical team, Creative Enzymes can perform enzymatic activity testing in a reliable and efficient way, including measurement of oxidoreductases such as malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) (NADP+).

Malate dehydrogenase (oxaloacetate-decarboxylating) (NADP+) belongs to the family of oxidoreductases and catalyzes the oxidative decarboxylation of (S)-malate in the presence of NADP+ and divalent metal ions, such as Mg2+ or Mn2+. It can also catalyze the decarboxylation of oxaloacetate which differs from EC 1.1.1.39. Its alternative names are:

  • malic enzyme (ambiguous) 003B
  • pyruvic-malic carboxylase (ambiguous);
  • malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating, NADP+);
  • NADP+-linked decarboxylating malic enzyme;
  • NADP+-malic enzyme;
  • NADP+-specific malic enzyme;
  • NADP+-specific malate dehydrogenase;
  • malate dehydrogenase (NADP+, decarboxylating);
  • L-malate:NADP+ oxidoreductase

Regarding its wide distribution in biological species, malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) (NADP+) exists in a broad range of eukaryotic organisms, from fungi to mammals. Malic enzymes are the core component of many important biological functions. In plant, NADP-malic enzyme is one of the three decarboxylation enzymes used in the inorganic carbon concentrating mechanisms of C4 and CAM plants. In fungi and other organisms, a malic enzyme, via NADPH production, is believed to have lipogenic functions. Similarly, the cytosolic NADP+-dependent isoform of malic enzyme (cNADP-ME) in mammals is involved in the generation of NADPH and the biosynthesis of fatty acids and steroids in liver and adipose tissues. In addition, cNADP-ME may also have a role in microsomal drug detoxification. More and more researches on malate dehydrogenase (decarboxylating) (NADP+) have been initiated due to the pivotal position it holds in biology. The increasing needs of accurate enzyme activity assays become a gap in biotechnology to be solved. To this end, Creative Enzymes brings the reliable spectrophotometric assay services to support research and development activities on it.
