Enzyme Activity Measurement for Nitrate Reductase (NADH)

Creative Enzymes provides the most precise activity measurement for nitrate reductase (NADH) to the customers. Our research center stands out with the most advanced equipment and a professional team with extensive experiences, which ensure the high quality and accuracy of enzyme activity measurement.

Nitrate reductase (NADH) (EC 1.7.1.1) is an NADH-dependent enzyme catalyzing the oxidation of nitrite to nitrate, while simultaneously generating NADH, which acts as a hydrogen donor for many biosynthetic processes. The enzyme contains heme iron, flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD), and molybdenum. These components appear to act as the carriers in transferring electrons between the NADH oxidation site and the nitrate reduction site. This enzyme is a member of the general oxidoreductase family that catalyzes the CH-OH group of the substrate and uses NAD+ or NADP+ as the cofactor. The systematic name of this enzyme is nitrite:NAD+ oxidoreductase, which is also known as:

  • assimilatory nitrate reductase;
  • NADH-nitrate reductase;
  • NADH-dependent nitrate reductase;
  • assimilatory NADH: nitrate reductase;
  • nitrate reductase (NADH2);
  • NADH2:nitrate oxidoreductase

Nitrate reductase (NADH) plays a pivotal role in nitrate reduction and metabolism, and is a key enzyme involved in the first step of nitrate assimilation in plants, fungi and bacteria. Nitrates can be used as fertilizers in agriculture because of their high solubility and biodegradability, and it is indeed an important nitrogen source in plants and algae. In addition, nitrates can be used as oxidizing agents as well as in food industry. Meanwhile, as for nitrites, they also play a critical role in biochemistry as the source of the potent vasodilator nitric oxide. Additionally, nitrites are also used in the food industry for meat curing.

Therefore, both nitrates and nitrites have important applications in biochemistry, agriculture, and food industry. As a result, nitrate reductase (NADH) is getting more and more attention from food and chemical companies. To this point, much more detailed information about this enzyme should be obtained, especially through catalytic activity measurement. The spectrophotometric assay was demonstrated to be a reliable method of activity quantification for many enzymes in this family. Creative Enzymes utilizes the most advanced spectrophotometric assay techniques to accurately measure the enzymatic activity of nitrate reductase (NADH) by following the absorbance change at 340 nm at 25°C. Unsurpassed by any others, Creative Enzymes provides innovative enzyme services and offers personalized technical support found nowhere else in the industry.
