Enzymes have found applications as biocatalysts with high efficiency and selectivity in manifold fields of chemistry and biology. However, only a small proportion of natural enzymes have been exploited industrially. Screening enzyme-producing microorganisms from nature is a traditional strategy for discovering novel enzymes. The process includes sample collection, enrichment culture, strain isolation and purification, primary and secondary screening, and verification, which is usually very time-consuming and has limited sensitivity. The candidate enzyme is obtained through functional screening.
