Rhubarb extract is prepared from the root of rhubarb, a herbaceous perennial plant. Rhubarb extract has a purgative action, which is used in the treatment of constipation, but also has an astringent effect too. The active ingredient of rhubarb extract emodin has a truly cleansing action upon the gut, removing debris and then astringing with antiseptic properties as well.
