Description
Liraglutide has numerous effects such as promoting pancreatic islet cell regeneration, lowering blood glucose, reducing body weight and protecting the cardiovascular system.Victoza is used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.Saxenda is used as a medication for the treatment of chronic obesity, as a supplement to dietary control and physical activity. Liraglutide is an acylated human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist with 97% amino acid sequence homology to human endogenous GLP-1 (7-37), retaining all of the biological activity of GLP-1, with GLP-1 receptor agonism.
Applications
Type 2 diabetes: Used to improve blood sugar control, usually in combination with diet and exercise. Liraglutide can be used alone or in combination with other diabetes medications.
Obesity: For weight management, especially in patients who have a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 or a BMI ≥27 with at least one weight-related condition (e.g., hypertension, type 2 diabetes, etc.).
