Description
Leuprolide acetate is a commonly used hormonal antimalignant drug, the acetate of leuprolide, a synthetic nine-peptide analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (LHRH, a decapeptide), an LH-RH antagonist. LHRH is produced in the hypothalamus, which induces the anterior pituitary to suck in the release of gonadotropins, as well as follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
Applications
Leuprolide acetate is a synthetic RH nonpeptide agonist. It is used as an antitumor agent (hormone).
