Description
Indole-3-carbinol is a tumor chemopreventive substance derived from cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, radish and cauliflower.
Indole-3-methanol (I3C) activates the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and induces G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. Therefore, it is a potential anticancer agent. In addition, it induces estradiol metabolism by stimulating cytochrome P450 enzymes. Therefore, I3C is considered an effective chemotherapeutic agent for various types of cancers, including breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer and leukemia.
