It can obtain energy by oxidizing inorganic sulfur compounds (such as hydrogen sulfide and ferrous sulfide) or utilizing methylated compounds. Therefore, Acidithiobacillus novellus can be used as a biofertilizer to oxidize sulfides and release nutrients, which is crucial for plants in sulfur-deficient soils.
