Description
A peptide that mimics the activity of the snake venom toxin Waglerin-1. It acts on the postsynaptic membrane as a reversible antagonist of the muscle nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nmAChR). The peptide binds to the ε-subunit of nmAChR, blocking the binding of acetylcholine to the receptor. This ultimately leads to receptor closure. In the closed state, sodium ions cannot flow in, preventing depolarization, thereby blocking nerve excitation transmission and causing muscle relaxation.
