Description
The bifunctional protein hldE includes D-glycero-β-D-manno-heptose-7-phosphate kinase and D-glycero-β-D-manno-heptose 1-phosphate adenylyltransferase activity (cf. EC 2.7.7.70). The enzyme is involved in biosynthesis of ADP-L-glycero-β-D-manno-heptose, which is utilized for assembly of the lipopolysaccharide inner core in Gram-negative bacteria. The enzyme selectively produces D-glycero-β-D-manno-heptose 1,7-bisphosphate.
