Description
Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans is a widely distributed mesophilic, obligate aerobic, and extremely acidophilic Gram-negative rod bacterium belonging to the genus Acidithiobacillus. It can utilize inorganic sulfur compounds (such as hydrogen sulfide and ferrous sulfide) as energy sources, generating sulfuric acid through the oxidation of these sulfur compounds to obtain energy. Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans can release nutrients by oxidizing sulfides, improving the acidic soil environment, and thereby enhancing soil fertility. Its acidophilic nature allows it to thrive in extreme environments. Therefore, Acidithiobacillus thiooxidans is also an important tool for bioremediation.
