Description
The CA-50 tumor marker test measures the blood level of cancer antigen 50, which is a carbohydrate present on the surface of certain cancer cells and released into the blood stream where they can be detected immunologically; this test is more useful for determining the effectiveness of treatment, rather than for cancer screening. CA 50 is most prevalent in gastrointestinal cancers, but can also be associated with cancer outside the digestive tract.
