Reaction
2 geranylgeranyl diphosphate = 15-cis-phytoene + 2 diphosphate (overall reaction); (1a) 2 geranylgeranyl diphosphate = diphosphate + prephytoene diphosphate; (1b) prephytoene diphosphate = 15-cis-phytoene + diphosphate
