Description
Linoleic acid is an unsaturated fatty acid with the chemical formula C18H32O2, which is one of the essential fatty acids. Linoleic acid belongs to the Omega-6 fatty acids, which often exist in food in the form of glycerides. Linoleic acid is gradually converted into γ-linolenic acid and arachidonic acid in the body and then synthesized into prostaglandins. Linoleic acid is esterified with cholesterol, which plays a role in lowering serum, liver, and blood cholesterol in the body, preventing atherosclerosis and arterial thrombosis. Linoleic acid also functions in maintaining and improving brain function, reducing dry skin, and inflammation, enhancing immunity, preventing eye diseases, and maintaining bone health.
Applications
Linoleic acid is widely used as food additives, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, health food, and raw materials for industrial products.
